Turning operations require inserts with positive geometries and ground peripheries. A fine grained C-2 carbide is generally best for turning operations.

The continuous chip stream produced when turning and boring many thermoplastic can be handled well using a compressed air powered suction system (directly disposing the swarf onto a container), in this way avoiding the chip wrapping around the chuck, the tool, or the workpiece.
